She was the widow of the late Mr Alfred Coates, who for many years was a home missionary of the Victorian Methodist Church in the country districts. For 40 years Sister Bessie was engaged throughout the State as a home mission evangelist, and was one of the best known and loved figures in the womenhood of Victorian Methodism. She became well known for her work as a Sister of the People at the Fitzroy Methodist Mission, and was instrumental in doing much for the advancement of the Cheltenham Children's Homes. The funeral will leave 6 Talbot avenue. East St Kilda, after a service commencing at 3.15pm today.
