MRS E. E. COATES Mrs Emma Elizabeth Coates, known as Sister Bessie, died at East St Kilda on Sunday. She was the widow of the late Mr Alfred Coates, who for many years was a home missionary of the Victorian Methodist Church in the country districts. For 40 years Sister Bessie was engaged throughout the State as a home mission evangelist, and was one of the best known and loved figures in the womenhood of Victorian Methodism. She became well known for her work as a Sister of the People at the Fitzroy Methodist Mission, and was instrumental in doing much for the advancement of the Cheltenham Children's Homes.
The funeral will leave 6 Talbot avenue. East St Kilda, after a service commencing at 3.15pm today.
