The Queenslander 11/11/1916
Mountjoy Upton—Conran. A wedding of interest to a large circle of friends in Queensland was celebrated at Holy Trinity, Brompton, the bride groom being the Hon. Henry Augustus George Mountjoy Heneaze Upton, only surviving son of Viscount and Viscountess Templeton, and the bride Miss Alleyne Conran, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Conran, and grand daughter of Mrs. George Raff, of Moray bank, Brisbane. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a beautiful white charmeuse gown, made with a short train, a longer train of tulle, pearl edged, falling from her veil, which was held by a wreath of orange blossoms. Her bouquet was of pale pink mal maiflons. She was attended by four bridesmaids—the Hon. Margaret Upton (sister of the bridegroom), Miss Nancy Conran (sister of the bride). Miss Essex Gunning, and Miss Ash, and Lady Cynthia North carried the bridal traiu. The bridesmaids' white chiffon frocks were made with old-fashioned fichus and frills, and wide tulle hats of larkspur blue. Their bouquets were many-coloured Victorian posies with lace frills, and they wore Victorian black velvet bracelets with the monogram of the bride and bridegroom in diamonds, the gift of Che bridegroom. The sergeants of the bride groom's regiment formed a guard of honour. Captain Wighter, Second Royal East Kent Mounted Riflee, was best roan. A very distinguished gatheriug of guests were present at the ceremony, and a reception was held afterwards at No. 10 Egertoa Gardens. The honey noon was spent in Scotland. Fix this text Sydney Morning Herald 7 Oct 1939 AUSTRALIAN-BORN PEERESS. LONDON Oct 6 (A A P ) By the death of the fourth Viscount Temple town, an Australian-born woman becomes the new Viscountess. She was formerly Miss Alleyne Conran, second daughter of the late H. L Conran, a Naval officer well-known in Queensland and Western Australia. The title is an Irish one. The Courier Mail 7 Oct 1939 AN AUSTRALIAN VISCOUNTESS Father Was Known Here By the death of Viscount Temple town, says a London cable message, the Australian-born Alleyne Upton (formerly Conran) becomes Viscountess Templetown. The Viscountess was the second daughter of the late Mr. Henry L. Conran,' native of Victoria and son of Captain L. C. Conran, who was A.D.C. to Governor La Trobe in 1850. Mr. H. L. Conran was educated in England, joined the Royal Navy, retired in 1872, and until 1890 was interested in pastoral properties in Queensland. Later he went to Adelaide, where he became a sharebroker. He had large interests in Western Australia also. His only son and one daughter served in the European war. The younger daughter, Alleyne married the Hon. Mountjoy Upton (born in 1894), only surviving son of the fourth Viscount Templetown, who now succeeds to the title. They have one son and one daughter. Viscount Templetown owns about 12,000 acres in County Monaghan, Ireland, and is a representative Peer for Ireland. |
