Benjamin and Elizabeth Towers were married in Arley, England. On 2/05/1888, Benjamin and Elizabeth boarded the British India Company steamer (a 3 masted schooner), 'Dorunda' with their 5 children - Agnes Jane (14), Samual (12), Anne (7), Susannah (4) and William (1). They disembarked in Townsville and settled on Ross Island where Benjamin worked on the construction of the Victoria Bridge. They later moved to Cecil Park (now El Saronga), via Plantation Creek on the Mermaid, eventually buying some property (91 acres) at Jarvisfield on the old Clare Road in 1890. Later on they moved into Ayr where Benjamin worked as a caretaker at the Ayr showgrounds.
