MR. G. IRONSIDES. Mr. George Ironsides, a native of Eton and a member of a very old pioneering family, passed suddenly away at midday yesterday at the age of about 65, Deceased took a slight stroke last year and, although he rallied a little, he was never the same since. He was in town quite recently. For many years, Mr. Ironsides followed his father's occupation, farming. Twelve months ago, he disposed of his farm to his sons, but recently purchased an other farm at Eton. Deceased was twice married and leaves a wife and a large family most of whom are grown up. Mrs. Tom Cowan, Mt. Pelion, is a sister, and Mrs. J. Ferguson, of Victoria-street, is a niece. Daily Mercury, Mackay, Qld. : 1906 - 1954) Tue 15 Dec 1936 page 10 "Quite a gloom was cast over the town on Friday when it became known that Mr. George Ironside, Sen., had passed suddenly away at his residence. The deceased recently disposed of his farm at Brightly to his sons (Hugh and Percy), and built a home in Eton, where he has been residing about six months. For some time past he has not been in good health, but the end was not expected so soon. He was twice married, the family of the first marriage are Mrs. J. Jones, (North Eton), Mrs. E. Sutton (Eton), Mrs. J. Wren (Mackay), daughters and the sons, George (Proserpine); Ronald Hugh and Percy (Brightly). He leaves a widow and young family of six, to whom we extend the sympathy of the district In their great sorrow."
