WK (William Ketland) WK died in 1804. The company continued under his partner, James Allport and his son, William Allport. They did get further contracts because they became a bone of contention when the partnership was finally dissolved on the death of James Allport in 1816 and the WK heirs took over. But, this isn't an Ordnance contract musket... its a commercial copy. Also, it cannot be any earlier than 1801 which is when WK went into business under his own name. Prior to that he was a partner in the Thomas Ketland firm. I don't see any proof marks (which is a little unusual). It could have been made any time after 1801 although it would almost certainly have been proofed if made after 1813. (I think this is the railway family - not mine) |
