Personal Notes: |
birth from 1851 census - living with daughter Mary Smith
'The Greyhound' once stood on Roes Lane but is no more; it has been demolished. Joseph Roe Smith was a landlord here as was his grandfather Joseph Roe. Roe's Lane is named after the family. * In the 1839 Rating Survey the Rising Sun, the Black Swan and the Greyhound (and several unnamed Beer Shops) were rated on the basis that they had 'Brewhouses', i.e. made their own beer. Greyhound Inn This inn used to stand down Roes Lane, and in 1846 it was kept by Joseph Roe who was a trustee and treasurer of the Crich Independent Friendly Society, (now demolished). England & Wales, National Probate Calendar (Index of Wills and Administrations), 1861-1941 Record for Joseph Roe 16 April. 1875 - The will of Joseph Roe late of Crich in the county of Derby who died 20 January 1875 at Crich was proved at the Principal Registry by Joseph Roe of 120 St James street Liverpool in the County of Lancaster Draper the Son of the Executors Effects under 20 pounds http://texts.wishful-thinking.org.uk/Pigot1835/Crich.html Greyhound, Joseph Rowe, Crich ******* http://pubhistory.co.uk/Derbyshire/Crich/Greyhound.shtml Greyhound, Crich, Derbyshire 1846/Joseph Roe/../../Bagshaws Directory **** 1857/George Smith/../../Whites Directory **** 1860/George Smith/& wheelwright/../Harrison & Harrods Directory **** 1861/George Smith/Wheelwright & Publican/44/Crich, Derbyshire/Census **** 1861/Mary Smith/Wife/41/Crich, Derbyshire/Census 1861/Ann Smith/Daughter/10/Crich, Derbyshire/Census 1861/Joseph Smith/Son/8/Crich, Derbyshire/Census 1861/George A Smith/Son/3/Crich, Derbyshire/Census 1861/Eliza Smith/General Servant/26/Mallock, Derbyshire/Census 1861/Joseph Roe/Father in Law, Stone Getter, Widow/66/Crich, Derbyshire/Census 1862/George Smith/../../Slaters Directory **** 1870/George A Smith/& wheelwright/../Harrods Directory **** 1871/George Ashbourne Smith/Wheelwright & Inn Keeper/54/Crich, Derbyshire/Census **** 1871/Mary Smith/Wife/52/Crich, Derbyshire/Census 1871/Ann Smith/Daughter/20/Crich, Derbyshire/Census 1871/Joseph Smith/Son/18/Crich, Derbyshire/Census 1871/George Smith/Son/13/Crich, Derbyshire/Census 1871/Joseph Roe/Father in Law, Limestone Quarry Man, Widow/76/Crich, Derbyshire/Census 1876/George Ashbourne Smith/Greyhound, & wheelwright/../Post Office Directory **** 1881/Samuel Taylor/../../Kellys Directory **** 1891/Henry Brocklehurst/../../Kellys Directory **** 1891/Henry Brocklehurst/Slater & Publican/33/Ashover Lea, Derbyshire/Census **** 1891/Mary Ann Brocklehurst/Wife/34/Ripley, Derbyshire/Census 1891/Bertram L Brocklehurst/Son/8/Ashover Lea, Derbyshire/Census 1891/George Smith Brocklehurst/Son/5/Ashover Lea, Derbyshire/Census 1891/Gilbert Brocklehurst/Son/2/Ashover Lea, Derbyshire/Census 1895/Henry Brocklehurst/../../Kellys Directory **** 1899/Henry Brocklehurst/../../Kellys Directory **** 1901/George Wm Willgoose/Publican/25/Chesterfield, Derbyshire/Census **** 1901/Christina Willgoose/Wife/21/South Wingfield, Derbyshire/Census 1901/Gladys Willgoose/Daughter/1 month/Crich, Derbyshire/Census 1901/William Paxton/Brother in Law, Blacksmith/23/South Wingfield, Derbyshire/Census 1908/Rose Perry/../../Kellys Directory **** |
