Picton & District Historical and Family History Society Inc - Australia 28 March 2015 · Facebook.com Lloyd Davenport Parry was born on 12 December 1847 at Shrewsbury England to Dr Francis Parry and Bertha Davenport. One of three children, Parry followed in his father’s footstep and obtained his degree in medicine from Edinburgh University in 1871. He joined the Colonial Medical Corps as a captain and was posted to various British outposts including South Africa and New Zealand where he met and married Annie McCormack on 1 August 1881. She was 20 years old. It is believed Annie was his second wife, having firstly married in the Orkney Isles where he was employed as a medical officer. A record of his first marriage has not been found. Two children were born in New Zealand, Margaret (b1882-1883) and Edward (1884-1948). By 1885, the Parry family were living at Hill End, New South Wales where Lloyd Parry was employed as a Government Medical Officer. In 1886, a daughter Annie Bertha Parry was born. In later years, Parry worked at Emmaville and Murrumburrah as a medical officer and also involved himself in the civic affairs of the town. He served as an alderman for one term but did not renominate for further service. Annie died at Murrumburrah in December 1897 following the birth of a son named Archibald who did not survive. By that time, both Parry’s children Edward and Annie were at prestigious boarding schools in Sydney and both were interested in medicine. On 25 January 1899, at St Marks Church Picton, Parry married Theodora Edith Antill (b1873), daughter of James Alexander Antill and Susannah Caroline Wild, daughter of John Benton Wild (1806-1857). Theodora’s uncle, Robert Henry Antill of Jarvisfield was the District Coroner. Mr and Mrs Parry returned to live at Murrumburrah where their son Claude Antill Parry was born (1900-1950). Theodora died the following year and Parry returned to Picton with his infant son where he set up practice at Macquarie Cottage in Argyle Street. On 2 April 1903, Parry married Theodora’s sister Alice Eliza Antill (1872-1960) at St Marks Church. He was 54. She was 31. They had two children. Campbell Alexander Parry (1905-1907) and Jessie Campbell Davenport Parry (1909-2003). Jessie was buried at St Marks Picton. She never married. Parry became an active member of civic affairs in Picton and served as an alderman and justice of the peace. Lloyd Parry died at a private hospital in Paddington 27 May 1919 at the age of 71. His daughter Annie Bertha Parry served a distinguished career in nursing and died in February 1954 at her Chatswood home. Parry’s wife Alice died in 1960 and was buried at St Marks. |
