MR. THOMAS FITZGERALD
MAREEBA, January 16.
The death, of an old resident of Ma
reeba in the person of Mr. Thomas
Fitzgerald occurred at the residence of
his daughter, Mrs. W. Eakin, Mareeba,
on Tuesday, January 15, at the age of
74 years. Deceased, who was born in
Ireland, came to Australia as a youth,
and in his early life joined the police
force, being stationed at Cooktown. In
later days he joined the Railway De-
partment and was stationed in Ma-
reeba for over 40 years, with an inter-
val of a few months at Yungaburra,
where he met with an accident, which
compelled him to retire. He returned
to Mareeba, and had resided from
thence onwards with his daughter,
Mrs. Eakin, He had been in failing
health for some time, and his demise
was not unexpected. He is survived
by six daughters and one son (Mes-
dames W. Eakin, Mareeba; S. Soper,
Dimbulah; H. Power, Cairns; K_
Stamp, Millaa Millaa; H. Robins,
Townsville; Miss Monica Fitzgerald.
Townsville; and Mr. W. Fitzgerald, of
the Railway Department, Mareeba).
The funeral took place on Wednesday
afternoon, moving from St. Thomas's
Church, and was attended by many old
friends. Rev. Father Mount officiated
at the graveside.
