James Goodchild was the son of Mr. James D. and Jane McKnight Goodchild. James, along with three other students were on their way to the annual formal dinner dance of Westminster college's Theta Upsilon Sorority in Youngstown when his car skidded while crossing a small plank bridge and he hit two trees. He was rushed to the hospital in Youngtown but died from his injuries. A well liked young man, he was a "Pre- medical" student, he was also interested in sports and dramatics. While in high shool in New Castle, James had been class president for three years and football manager while in his senior year. He had also taken part in several class plays. He was a member of the First Presbyterian church. James was survived by his parents and a brother Chauncey Goodchild, an instructor of biology at New York University, New York. * The information above was taken from an article in The New Castle News 5/24/1937.
