Coastguardsforever: Based on Tony's findings that Julia's father was also a Coast Guard I checked the index and found that Richard Isum joined the CG Service from HMS Java & Boudicia. From his Nomination Number (5234) I worked out that this must have been some time in 1835, so I checked the Nomination Book in ADM 175/78 and found that it was on the 7 February 1835, his first posting being to Hove. From this it should be possible to trace his entire CG career, and with a bit of luck, if he was still in England in 1841, find him in the Census.
