Robert Humphreys (11) born in 1825 in Cork, Ireland, died in 1910 in Cork, Ireland. Son of Ann Murphy and Robert Humphreys (I) According to Cork Queenstown directory 1871 living at: Alma cottages, 70 Sundays well road, Cork, Ireland Robert Humphreys was married to Sarah Perrott, (in 1859). they had 3 children: Hannah Mary, Anne and Robert Humphreys (III) John Humphreys writes: "Robert Humphreys (II) married William Perrott's sister Sarah Perrott much later (in 1859) when he was 34. He worked in the Perrott family business, "The Hive" iron foundry. Robert's occupation is listed as "Accountant" when he married Sarah Perrott (in 1859), but "Iron Merchant" in the birth certificate of our grandfather, his son Robert Humphreys (III). Great-grandfather Robert and his wife Sarah had three children, Hannah Mary Humphreys (b. 1862) who married Herbert Allport, Anne (b. 1864) who never married, and Robert. On Robert's birth certificate it says they lived at Alma Cottage, Sunday's Well - close neighbours of the Richey family. He and his future wife were born within a few days of each other, and within a few hundred yards at most." John Humphreys 18 Feb 2016 I believe she was named Hannah Mary Humphreys, not Hannah May. She was named after her grandmother Hannah Mary Barnes (1800-1876), who married Richard Perrott (1791-1870) in December 1815, when she was 15 years and one week old. Richard Perrott was a partner in The Hive Iron Foundry, which had been set up in Cork around 1800 by Hannah Mary's father Thomas Addison Barnes. The Perrotts had 12 children; William Perrott (1822-1884) married Anne Humphreys (1821-1909), and William's sister Sarah Perrott (1826-1897) married Anne's brother Robert Humphreys (1825-1910), in 1859. Sarah and Robert Humphreys were my great-grandparents. Hannah Mary was their eldest child. She married Henry Kingston Allport (1857-1944) who was the son of Henry Allport of Cork, who owned a shop selling guns and sporting goods, and put on firework displays. Henry junior qualified as a doctor at Cork in 1880 and seems to have joined the British Army in the following year; they spent some time in India and he reached the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel. They had three children, Percy (1882-1909), Herbert (1883-1964) and Rhoda Mary (1882-C1959). Herbert and Rhoda were twins. Best wishes, John Humphreys. |
