Personal Notes: |
Adelaide Observer 21 May 1859
An accident of a distressing and very remarkable character occurred a few days ago to Mrs. Malachi Beaty, of Randall's station, Mount Crawford. While travelling with a drayload of furniture, and seated upon a sofa on the top of the load, the dray was allowed by the driver to pass under the limb of a tree, underneath which Mrs. Beaty was drawn so violently as to break one of her thighs at the hip joint, and the other leg above the ankle in both bones. The unthinking mode adopted by the driver to extricate the unfortunate woman added no little to her sufferings. He procurred a saw and cut of the branch of the tree, allowing it to rest upon her when it was set at liberty. She was conveyed home and was attended by the family doctor and Dr. Nott, and the same night was confined of a son, and it is equally pleasing and strange to add that both mother and infant are doing well. |
