Ancestry trees - Murray More Tree Validating Christopher Rodger Brittingham’s history According to a Melbourne newspaper death notice, Josiah William Brittingham (c 1803 – 1885) was the third son of the late Christopher Rodger Brittingham, of Swanton Norfolk. Josiah’s death certificate confirms his parents were Christopher Rodger and Sarah (nee Burton), and that Josiah was born in Briston, Norfolk. There are two Swantons in Norfolk, Swanton Novers and Swanton Abbot, with the first being only a mile or two from Briston. Another Melbourne newspaper death notice, this for William Brittingham, ( (1833-1890), the oldest son of Josiah, states he was a grandson of the late Christopher Rodger Brittingham of Swanton Hall, Norfolk. The Brittingham family home in Melbourne was named “Swanton” LDS records show a Christopher Brettingham married Sarah Burton at Aylsham, Norfolk (nearby Swanton Novers and Briston) in January 1801, and that a Sarah Burton was baptized in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk in July 1776. These dates would fit with the birth date of Josiah William.
