from birth reg of dau Dorothy The Daily News (Perth) 9 Sept 1911 FOUND Mr. and Mrs. Will Wardrope and Dolly Wardrope have been found, they are travelling with the Scarlet Jesters. The South-Western News (Busselton, WA) 3 Nov 1911 The Scarlet Jesters. The Scarlet Jesters renewed their acquaintance with Busselton on Monday evening, when they showed to a big house at Barnard's Hall. The features of their entertainment which is a good one, remain unaltered, and most of the old favorites, such as Miss Ella Weston (contralto), Miss Dolly Wardrope (soubrette), Mr. Frank Seccombe (basso), and Mr. Will. Wardrope (humorist), remain with the Company, while Miss Alice Desmond and Mr. Geoffrey Benstead make up its full complement. Truth (Melbourne) 14 Nov 1914 WANDERING WARDROPE. No Time for His Wife when He Turns Actor. When William Wardrope gave up his billet as an assistant at the Public Library and blossomed out as an actor, his wife, Ethel Rosa, who now lives at Highett, was displaced in his affections by a damsel who had been at the Bijou. He resolutely refused to return to his wife, the consequence being a petition for divorce on the ground of desertion. The parties were married in May, 1905. he then being 21 and she 22, and for the next couple of years he lived with his mother at Balaclava. Their only child was born in July, 1905. Early in 1907, Wardrope became ill, and went to stay with friends at Dandenong. Three months later he FLITTED AWAY, without giving any c!ue as to his destination. His wife heard later that he had got in tow with an actress, and had gone to Western Australia with a touring company. For the next five years she wrote to him at intervals and made personal appeals to him at the Bijou to come back to her but he would not do so giving her to understand that he had adopted a mode of life in which she had no place. Mr. Justice a Beckett granted a decree nisi, with costs. |
