"A RUNAWAY APPRENTICE. James Alexander Chessor was charged with absenting himself from the service of Mr. C Gillespie, be it manufacturer. The defendant was arrested by Constable Farrell by warrant on the previous evening; he told the constable he would go back to work if Mr. Gillespie paid his wages to himself instead of to hie mother, because h could not live at home on account of his stepfather's drunkenness. Mr. John Gillespie produced the defendant's indentures, but as there was no witness to the signatures on the document the Police Magistrate said he counld not deal with defendant under it. He was accordingly discharged."
