- Notes: Andrew Abel Chown 1839, second son of Isaac, youngest of the children of
Matthais of Spurway Farm, decided that farming was not for him. During his
travels about the country learning the drapery trade, he met and wed Ellen
BARLOW and not too long after, in 1870, opened his own shop at Exmouth. This
business became very well-known and flourished for 85 years, being carried on as
A.A. CHOWN & SON by his son Ernest 1873-1953, and then by Ernest's son Cyril
born 1908. |
