Personal Notes: |
Stanley is the second child of Charlie and Rose and was born at Toogoolawah in the very early days of 1919. He was enrolled at Biarra School in September 1924 at the age of five and completed his primary education there.
On leaving school Stan worked with his father at 'Merton Hall Farm' for a time until, like so many of his generation, he was caught up in military service in the Army in World War II. Upon his discharge, Stan eventually acquired a farm on Biarra Road, Toogoolawah, engaging in dairying and fruit growing. It was here that he and his wife Grace raised their family of four daughters and two sons. Stan, however, began to suffer the insidious detrimental effects of the use of fungicides on his own and his father's citrus orchards, and his health declined. One of Stan's hobbies was the breeding of cattle dogs, as was his father's before him. He travelled to many of the regional shows and competed with some success in trials applicable to that breed of dog. As well, he was a dedicated supporter of the Toogoolawah Show Society and was honoured by them with Life Membership. Stanley died at the age of seventy-nine years and is buried in the Toogoolawah Lawn Cemetery. |
