The Tumut and Adelong Times 4 May 1926
MR. TIMOTHY QUILTY. As briefly chronicled in last issue, Mr. Timothy Quilty, one of the early pioneers and a native of the Tumut district, crossed the Great Divide last Wednesday morning. The subject of this obituary, who was 75 years of age and son of the late Thomas Quilty, many years ago purchased from the late Thomas Bridle a farm on the bend of the Tumut River at West Blowering and remained there successfully farming until he retired and came to Tumut to reside. Decea sed was twice married, his first wife being Miss Halloran, and to them one son (Thomas, of Cairns, Queensland) was born. The issue of the marriage with Miss Maggie Bourke, who survives, was Dr. William Quilty, of Hurlstone Park, and Miss Mollie (Mrs Tony Madigan). One son, Frank, made the supreme sacrifice in the Great War. Sisters and brothers of deceased who survive are: Mrs. Fred Downing (Gadara), Mrs. H. J. Crowe (Gobarralong), Mrs. W. O'Brien (Condobolin), Jack (Condo bolin), Tom (Windowie), Edward J. (Tumut), James (West Wyalong). Two sisters (Mrs. Tuohey and Miss Ellen) and one brother (Patrick) pre deceased him. The funeral took place on Thursday. Prior to leaving the Catholic Church a short service was conducted by Rev. Fr. J, Sharkey (P.P.) and Fr. Lehane (Guudagai). The cortege was a large one; and the remains were interred in the Catholic portion of the new cemetery, Rev. Fr. Sharkey, assisted by Rev. Fr. Lehane, officiating at the graveside. The pall-bearers were Messrs Fred. Downing, Tony Madigan, W. Quilty, E. J. Quilty, Gerald Crowe and Frank Bourke. |
