Thomas Quilty was born in Limerick, Ireland in 1786 and came to Sydney with his wife in 1839 and then to Tumut in 1852 where he engaged 1n farmlng.
His wife Ann Quilty was born in Ireland in 1798. They were the head of a very large farmly of descendants. Their sons were were both born in Tumut; >Michael Quilty and Timothy Quilty. >Timothy Quilty went to the Catholic School conducted by Mr. Finnigan in a slab hut at Comely Bank. He married a Miss Bourke from Blowering. He died at Tumut on 4 April 1926 aged 75 years. Later Thomas & Ann bought the farm, up river from Jones Bridge, from Thomas Bridle. The pioneer settler Thomas Quilty died on 5 June 1870 at the age of 84 and his widow Ann died on 2 January 1881 at the age of 83 years. |
