Charles Gilbert Long came to Tumut in 1858. He went to the Kiandra gold rush in 1860 and was one of the more fortunate among the miners. He made sufficient money there to enable him to erect a home on his selection at Lacmalac for his wife and family. Mrs. Long was born at Sommersetshire England. She died at Tumut on 1 October 1902.
