Personal Notes:
The Tumut and Adelong Times 20 Aug 1940
OBITUARY MRS. MARY ANDERSON The death occurred at the Tumut District Hospital on Saturday at 2.30 p.m. of yet another grand old lady of the Tumut district in the person of Mrs. Mary Anderson, relict of the late Mr. Frank Anderson, of Lacmalac, at the age of 77 years. The late Mrs. Anderson had been invalided and bedridden for the past five years and had been a patient in the Tumut Hospital for several months prior to her demise. She was born at Lacmalac, being a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles Long, who also resided in that centre all their lives. In her youth she was renowned for her lovable and jovial witticism. She married Mr. Frank Anderson at Tumut and they resided at Lacmalac, where her husband followed farming and grazing pursuits. The late Mrs. Anderson endeared herself to everyone in the hamlet and had many friends throughout the district. Her kindly disposition and warmth of human understanding irridiated her actions. Her personality gave and attracted friendship as much as it evoked admiration. A friend of the older hands has gone, never to return; but has left behind her a community enriched by the memory of a personality of unique depth of character. The late Mrs. Anderson was a good organiser and took a hand in all activities in the village. There were three sons, Charles (Lacmalac), Frank (Gilmore) and Fred. (Cowra) and one daughter, Ruby (Mrs. Benson) of Sydney, born to the union, all of whom survive. Her husband, Mr. Frank Anderson, predeceased her by 29 years. She lived at Brungle for a short period after her husband's death and then moved to Tumut, where she resided with her grand daughters, Misses Mary, and Peggy Denson. On their marriage Mrs. Anderson went to live with her son Charles at Lacmalac, where she remained until having to enter hospital. Despite being invalided for the past five years, she still retained her cheerfulness. Brothers and sister surviving are Messrs. Wm. Long (Blowering), Edward Long (Sydney), Gilbert Long and Walter Long, and Mrs. Smiles (Wagga). One sister, Mrs. Winch, predeceased her. The funeral took place on Sunday after noon, Rev. S. Broadfopt officiating at the graveside and Mr. C. W. Burt carrying on the mortuary arrangements. The pall-bearers were Messrs. Charles and Frank Anderson, Greg. Anderson, E. Roddy, G. Thatcher and W. Beavan. '"hough her smile has gone forever, And her voice we cannot hear, We shall always have sweet memories Of the one we loved so dear."

This public tree has about 60,100 people. Every person in the tree is related by birth or marriage to at least one other person in the tree - no strays. The people in the tree come mainly from four projects.
  1. My family tree. The original project begun about 1998. ID numbers less than about 6,000
  2. Canberra and Queanbeyan Pioneers. The next 30,000 begun about 2004. Sourced almost entirely from HAGSOC's excellent 'Biographical Register of Canberra and Queanbeyan'. The project began when I decided to add siblings, spouses and parents for a relation with an entry in the Register. 12 years work.
  3. Wagga Pioneers. I moved to Wagga and thought I would extend the Queanbeyan project by adding people from Wagga Wagga & District Family History Society's 'Pioneers of Wagga Wagga and District'. About 10,300 people added over about a year.
  4. Tumut Valley Pioneers. During the COVID-19 pandemic of 2020, I decided to extend the above projects by adding pioneers of the Tumut Valley. Initial sources were Snowden's 'Pioneers of the Tumut Valley' and 'Relict of ... Lives of Pioneering Women of Tumut and District'. Excellent references published by Tumut Family History Group. I've also added material from newspapers of the time - especially, death records, obituaries and weddings from 'Tumut and Adelong Times'. This project is in its early stage and might take a few years. I plan to extend to the upper Monaro (Adaminaby, Kiandra, Cooma, Jindabyne).
I upload new information to this website about every 3 months. My motivation for these projects is to provide public information for people seeking to trace ancestors and what became of them. Much of the information I provide can be difficult to find.
If you find errors - anything incorrect (dates, places, wrong parents, wrong children), and you have evidence, I would love to fix them. Or, if you have information that would extend my projects, do not hestiate to contact me on the email link below. I do not publish information on living people - which means I'm not much interested in people born after about 1920, and I usually distrust material from before about 1770 without extremely good sources.
