She was born in 1868 to John Joseph blacksmith and Mary Murphy ( nee McLachlan) of Bungendore. She married underage with Father's permission, to an apprentice of John, a James Guymer and family lore was that he made them marry in Queanbeayan, even if it was Co E as James Guymer was English background and Co E, although Catherine was Catholic.
