Personal Notes:

After three sons, James and Henrietta were delighted with the arrival of Edith Asenath, born at Gundagai on 17 Sep 1876. The apple of her father's eye, she was only 13 when he died in March 1889. Later Henrietta and Edith went to live at Grafton where her bachelor brothers Ernest and Harold were in business. There she met and fell in love with a young dentist, Charles Edward ATTWATER whom she wed on 03 April 1900 (18 years to the day before Fred Elworthy and Viola Hansen were married in Gundagai!) The Clarence & Richmond Examiner provided a very detailed report of the wedding:
"A very fashionable wedding was celebrated at Christ Church Cathedral, Grafton on Tuesday, April 3 when Miss Edith Elworthy (daughter of the late J B Elworthy of Gundagai and granddaughter of the late Dr Large of Wagga Wagga) was married to Mr C E Attwater of Grafton.
"The bride who was given away by her brother (Mr Ernest Elworthy, manager of the local branch of the Australian Joint Stock Bank) wore a dress of ivory brocade silk, demi train, transparent yoke and sleeves, fichu of ruched chiffon with wreath of orange blossom and myrtle, fastened with a moonstone brooch (gift of her brother Mr W J Elworthy of Narrandera). The bride carried a white prayer book and wore a Marie Stuart bracelet (gift of her mother).
"The bridesmaid Miss Muriel Bawden wore white silk muslin over buttercup, a burnt straw picture hat trimmed with white chiffon and yellow roses and also wore a diamond and pearl brooch, the gift of the bridegroom. She carried a basket of maiden hair fern, jessamine and yellow roses. Mr G S Stening (local manager of the Fresh Food & Ice Co) acted as best man to Mr Attwater.
"The wedding breakfast was partaken of at the residence of the bride's brother. (Ernest). Mr & Mrs Attwater left by the "Kallatina" on Wednesday and on the 11th instant embark by the "Omrah" for a trip to Europe. They were recipients of numerous and costly presents including cheques for liberal amounts.
"The bride's travelling dress was a myrtle green cloth coat and skirt, cream vest, grey felt hat trimmed with fawn. Mr & Mrs Attwater carry with them the best wishes of a large circle of friends."
Such a favoured young couple! The bride had always been cherished and protected by her adoring mother and now had the world at her feet. The groom had a good profession, they were in love and the future looked wonderfully rosy for them both - but Fate had other plans.
To round out their happiness, 14 months after the fairy tale wedding and world trip honeymoon, a baby daughter Merlyn Edith arrived in 1901. To complete the family, a son Leicester Charles Wrixon was born on 10 March 1904.
Sadly and tragically, just eight days later lovely young Edith was dead.
The Gundagai Times sadly reported" ... She was only 28 years old and was highly accomplished. The many friends of her childhood, which was spent here, will grieve at her untimely end - which was very sudden, and will mourn with her mother from whom she had never been separated."
Family life must have been difficult for Charles with a dental practice, a three year old daughter and a baby son. He later he married Miss Crane, a Grafton schoolteacher.
