Death of Mrs. Byrne, jn.
A particularly sad death occurred on Friday last, in the Wagga Hospital, when the wife of Mr. Chas. Byrne (son of Mr. and Mrs. C. S. Byrne, of Bushy Park, Bombowlee) breathed her last at the early age of 22 years. Deceased was the daughter of the late Mr. W. Denson and Mrs. Denson, of Bombowlee, and was married on 17th April last, at the Catholic Church, Tumut. About a fortnight afterwards she took ill, in Wagga, whither the young couple had gone to reside, and Dr. Stoker was consulted. He quickly realised that the case was a serious one, and recommended the admission of the patient for treatment at the Wagga Hospital, where another leading medical man and Dr. Stoker held a consultation, both agreeing that the ailment was thorax of the throat. The first object sought to be gained was the building up of strength, so that an operation could be performed; but the poison from the throat affection kept making to the heart, which so shattered that organ as to cause its pulsation to reach as high as 160 to the minute. For two months the disease was combatted with, and the utmost of endeavours were used to cope with the malady, but all to no purpose, as it was evidently beyond human power to master. Deceased, was highly respected by all acquaintances, and the greatest of sympathy is felt for the husband, mother and family over the sad affliction that has befallen them. The face we loved is lying low, The fond, true heart is still; The hand oft clasped in ours Lies now in death's cold chill. The remains were brought by train to Tumut, on Saturday, and lodged in the Catholic Church, where a Requiem Mass was celebrated. In the afternoon they were borne to the Catholic portion of the cemetery, and Rev. Father Ryan conducted the obsequies at the grave-side. Mr. Jas. Elphick acted efficiently as undertaker, conducting all arrangements with the utmost of precision and decorum. The cortege was a long one, composed of friends intent upon showing their respect to the memory of the departed one and their sympathy towards those who have been bereaved.
