DEATH OE MR. G. LEFEVRE. Mr. George Augustus Lefevre, a well known and highly respected old identity, died at his residence, at Tumut Plains, on Tuesday evening last, after a dropsical illness lasting for the past six or seven years, but by his genial demeanour it was not made manifest that he was afllicted with the ailment until during the past year or so. He was of a particularly jovial disposition, and was one of the straightest, most honorable and industrious residents that our district was possessed of. He could well have been termed on, of our most ancient pioneers on the land. His age was 69 years, pretty well the whole of which period was spent in Tumut. He married Miss Crampton, sister to Mr. D. Crampton, and other worthy citizens amongst us. No indication of his approaching end was apparent. It had been his custom to sit in the front part of his residence when the sun was shining at the back, to which he changed his position when the sun shone in front, and on Tuesday evening he had just walked round to the rear of the house when he collapsed, falling into the arms of his daughter, who happened to be near him, death having been caused apparently by a flow of liquid to the heart. Deceased leaves a sorrowing widow and family of nine to mourn the loss of an affectionate husband and father. The names of the family, in order of ages, are — George, Wm., David, Alfred Mrs. Denton, Arthur, Rowley, Fred. & Susan. The funeral, which took place on Wednesday, was attended by an immense crowd of relations and friends, the interment taking place in the Anglican portion of the new cemetery, Rev. Rix conducting the burial service, and Mr. Elphick was the undertaker. The pall-bearers were the four nephews (Messrs. Alfred, Fred, David and Bert), and son-in-law, (Mr. S. Denton), and H. Crampton. |
