Obituary of George Henry Bell (1955) The death occurred on Sundat morning of Mr George Henry Bell, a well-known resident of Esat Stree, North Ward at the age of 68. The late Mr bell was a valued member of the "Bulletin" staff until his retiement two years ago. a native of Charters Towers, he served his time there as a printer and nearly 40 years ago came to Townsville to the "Bulletin". a practical tradesman, he was regarded highly by his workmates, many of whom profited form his experience. Mr Bell is survived by his widow, four sons, Bill, Gordon, Jack and Robert, and one daughter, Betty (Mrs Field). George Henry Bell moved to Townsville in 1912, he worked at the Northern Miner newspaper in Charters Towers which was bought out by the Townsville Daily Bulletin and then printed in Townsville. He worked the rest of his life at the Bulletin and died from lead poisoning due to his exposure to the lead print and lead presses. |
