Golden Wedding KINRED— BRIDLE On November 29 two old and esteemed residents of the Tumut district, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Kinred, celebrated their golden wedding. The occasion was marked by a gathering of old friends at "Sulby," the residence of the 50-years-married couple. A "wedding tea" was partaken of. The tables, beautifully decorated with golden Iceland poppies, were laden with good things, a wedding cake, finished also with touches of gold, completed the sumptuous repast. After justice had been done to the good things provided, the usual toast list was proceeded with, Rev. T. A. Gair (C. of E.) presiding. The toast of the "Bride and Groom of 50 years," was proposed by the Chairman, and supported by Messrs. E. G. Bridle and A. E. Wilkinson, Mr. Fred Kinred feelingly responding. Mr. and Mrs. Kinred were the recipients of some beautiful and valuable gifts, and many good wishes were also conveyed by numerous telegrams, letters and telephone messages. We are sure these worthy citizens also have the good wishes of the people of our town and district. They were married at All Saints', Tumut.
Personal Notes:
Frederick Kinred was born on 4 April 1851 on the Isle of Man. His parents, Hugh Kinred and Charlotte anred lived there on the family estate, which it is claimed was held by the Kinred family for 800 years.

Arriving in Sydney in 1875, he married Emma Bridle, a daughter of William Bridle Snr. of Talbingo Station on 29 November 1876.

Frederick Kinred was an architect and building contractor. Together with a brother who came to Tumut with him, he built most of the substantial buildings in Tumut, Adelong and Gundagai, among which were the All Saints Church and Convent of Mercy at Tumut and the Roman Catholic Church at Gundagai.

It is also claimed that he built the blue granite Roman Catholic Church at Tumut, which was commenced in 1876.

Frederick Kinred was a great thinker and a man of extraordinary vision. There are records available showing that in 1880 he recommended to the State Government, and submitted plans, for a water conservation and hydro-electric scheme with dams at Blowering, Goobarragandra, Talbingo, Jounama Creek, Buddong Creek, and the junction of the Tumut and Murrumbidgee Rivers, Seventy five years before the Snowy River Schemes were commenced. Plans and maps of these schemes proposed by him are still, in the Custody of descendants at Tumut.

In 1901 he recommended Gadara to the Government as the site for the Federal Capital. In 1901 he submitted plans to the Government for vast pine forests at Yarrangobilly, with roadways, a nursery, and a trout hatchery. He received no monetary gain for his proposals and recommendations.
