The Tumut and Adelong Times 19 Jan 1926
The Late Mr Isaac Nuttall. Yet another of the old identities of the Tumut district passed away last Sunday week, in the person of Mr. Isaac Nuttall, at the advanced age of 78 years. Deceased was born on Monaro, and came to Tumut when a lad. Fifty-two years ago he married Miss Charlotte Hoad, daughter of the late Henry Hoad, sr., his wife dying on October 20, 1922. To the union were born six sons, viz: William, Henry, Arthur, Frederick, John and Edwin, and three daughters, viz: Ada (Mrs. W. Lusty, of Sydney), Bertha (Mrs S. Graham, Sydney) and Miss Ethel, all of whom survive. Un til old age curtailed his activities, he followed farming pursuits, principally on Tumut Plains. That was up till ten years ago. Six years later, with his wife, and the members of his family who had not set out on their own account on life's troubled waters, he came to Fitzroy-street, Tumut, to live, and it was here that the par ents ended their days, Mrs. Nuttall being 67 years of age at the time of her demise. Both parents and their family were hard workers and neighbourly people, highly respected by all who knew or had any dealings with them. Last September Mr. Nuttall consulted Drs. Browne and Clouston, who advised him to go to Sydney and consult Sir Alexander McCormack. The only hope for relief was an operation, but his old age made that an impossibility as a means of prolonging life, so he returned after 7 weeks in the city, and from that out required the constant nursing of his devoted daughter and kind and considerate relatives and friends. Drs. Browne and Clouston did their best to afford the patient relief from his sufferings. The funeral took place yesterday week, the interment taking place in the C. of E. portion of the New Cemetery, Mr. Dransfield, All Saints curate, in the absence of the Rector, officiating at the grave. The pall-bearers were his six sons (William, Henry, Arthur, Fred, John and Edwin. Messrs. Fuller and Burt faithfully conducted the mortuary arrangements. |
