HILL— LOW. The marriage of Miss Lottie Low, second daughter of Mr. David Low, of Concord, Sydney, to Mr. Harry Hill, of Brungle, was celebrated at the Presbyterian Church, Burwood, on October 28, by Rev. R. E. Davies, of Hurstville (late of Tumut). The bride, who was a returned army nurse, and saw service with the A.I.F. in .Egypt, was given away by her father. She was gowned in ivory jersey silk, heavily embroidered, and also wore a beautiful lace veil, and a wreath of orange buds. Her shower bouquet of white carnations, with a string of pearls, was the gift of the bridegroom. The bride was attended by Miss 'Teddie' Lee, in a frock of delphia blue and gold shot taffeta, and she carried a bouquet of pale pink carnations and sweet peas. Mr. Walter Calder was best man. The reception was held at Miss Bishop's, Sydney, where Miss Low, sister of the bride, received the guests. Later Mr. and Mrs. Hill left for the Blue Mountains and the Jenolan Caves to spend the honeymoon, the bride travelling in a navy tailored costume and black and silver hat. Their future home will be Concord. Adelong and Tumut Express and Tumbarumba Post (NSW : 1900 - 1925)Friday 22 December 1922 |

| - Notes: OBITUARY
MR. HENRY CUTHBERT HILL. As reported in our last issue, Mr. H. Hill died suddenly, at Brungle, on Tuesday morning. The day before his death deceased was shearing at the property of Mr. Donald A. McGruer, Brungle. On Monday evening he was in the best of health, and had shorn 96 sheep that day. At about 7 a.m. on Tuesday morning Mr. Mack McAlister, of Gundagai discovered Mr. Hill dead in bed when be went to call him for breakfast. The cause of death is believed to be heart failure. The Tumut District Coroner, Mr. R. L. Blakeney was at the time in Sydney, and Sergt. Nightingale, of Tumut, called the Gundagai Coroner, Mr. C. G. D. Aulman, who dispensed with an inquest as there were no suspicious circumstances. The body was conveyed to the Tumut Hospital morgue by the Gundagai—Tumut ambulance. The late Harry Hill was born at Brungle 53 years ago. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Hill, very early settlers in the Brungle district. Deceased received his education at the Brungle Public School, and after leaving school worked on various farming and grazing properties in that locality. When the Great War broke out he was amongst the large contingent of local boys who answered the call, many of whom were present at his funeral to pay homage to their departed and esteemed comrade, who was in the 36th Battalion—No. 786, Private H. C. Hill—and was one of the Battalion's A snipers. He had an excellent war record, and was three times wounded, seriously the last time. He was invalided back to Australia in January, 1918. Whilst a patient in George's Heights Military Hospital in Sydney he met Sister Lottie Lowe (daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Lowe of Sydney) a war nurse, who cared for him whilst in the institution and whom he later married. Three children—Donald, Harry and Pamela—were born to the union. After their marriage. Mr. and Mrs. Hill resided for about three years in Sydney, and later came to Tumut, where the former followed rural pursuits at Brungle, and in the summer months carried on an Ice business. For the last 12 years they have resided in Tumut and few years ago deceased built a home in Tumut, where he and his family resided ever since. Deceased was an Oddfellow and a Freemason, and took an active part in both societies. He had only recently been installed to an important office in Lodge Tumut Unity, of which position he was very proud. He was a kindly arid home-loving man—one whom everyone spoke highly of and, though he never took an active part in town affairs, Tumut loses a citizen of sterling worth. Besides his sorrowing wife and family, two brothers—Tom (Brungle), and Jack (Sergeant of Police in Sydney), and three sisters—Florrie (Mrs. George Harmer, Adjungbilly), Annie (Mrs. Jas. Agnew, Tumut), and Kitty (Mrs. Gill, Sydney), survive. Two brothers, Colin and Alick, and two sisters, are deceased. The cortege left the Presbyterian Church, Tumut, on Wednesday afternoon. The Rev. J Hunter McGoun officiated at the graveside. War. Bro. T. N. Learmont read the Masonic burial rites. The pall-bearers were Reg Crane, Tom Malone, Bill Sturt, Peter Kemp, Fred Malone and Percy McAlister, all of whom sailed with deceased on "The Beltana" for the front and belonged to the same battalion.
