THE LATE MR JOHN T. CLOUT. The death occurred in the Yass District Hospital at 7.30 p.m. on Tuesday last of Mr. John Thomas Clout, age 51 years. The late Mr. Clout and his family had been residents of Yass for some two years. His children took a keen interest in the sporting bodies of the town, and consequently made a wide circle of friends. Mr. Clout's death was unexpected, as he was only in the hospital for a fortnight. He contracted pneumonia and other complication set in. The late Mr. Clout was a native of Tumut Plains, where he spent the whole of his life before going to Yass. He married Miss Florence Sturt, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Richard Sturt, of Tumut Plains. Mr. Clout was for many years a membcr of the Tumut A. and P. Association Committee. He took a keen interest in politics and was one of the main promoters of the Millet Growers' Association and chairman of Progress and P. and C. Associations. He was also secretary of the Tumut Plains Church of England Parochial Council. Mr. Clout was secretary of a movement in Tumut whereby £1200 was raised for building a home for Tumut's legless returned soldier, Mr. Gus . Keown . We can speak more intimately of our departed friend, because for many years he was the Tumut Plains correspondent of the TUMUT TIMES. A truly conscientious man, his character always stood as an immovable quality from rectitude. When he went to Yass deceased purchased a small place known as "Silver Lee," and he resided in Plunket Street. Mr. Clout has always , been a staunch adherent to the Church of England faith and this: year he was elected to the local parochial council. He was a regular attendant at St. Clement's, where a short service was held prior to the funeral. Deceased is survived by his wife and five children. Misses Marjorie and Maisie (Yass), and Messrs Wallace (Junee), and Clifford and Richard (Yass). The funeral took place on Wednesday afternoon at 3 o'clock and a representative cortege paid its last respects. There were a number of Tumut people present, including deceased's mother, who is 83 years of age, and who travelled over from Tumut by car to attend her son's funeral. Rev. W. M. Holliday read the last, service at the graveside and Mr. W. H. Mcintosh had charge of the funeral arrangements. Included among the wreaths were the following from: Mr. and Mrs. Ern. Baker 'and family, Mr. and Mrs. Dixon and Allan, St. Clement's Church Women's Union, Mr. and Mrs. T. Marjorie, Maisie, Wallace, Cliff, Rich., and Mrs Clout, Yass Senior Football Club, St. Clement's Wardens and Council, Mr. and Mrs. Fowles, Mr. and Mrs. P. M. Bourke and family, Mr. and Mrs. E. Leathart, Mr. and Mrs W. Davis, and family, Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Dare, Mr. and Mrs. Hammond and family, Phyllis Hillier.
