| - Notes: It is believed that John Barber married a lady named Mary (his marriage is yet to be verified), and that John was baptised 23 July 1775 at Great Budworth. His father is named THOMAS. His baptism record is here:
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:NHZX-QVY (record slightly damaged) It is believed that this John then is the son of Thomas Barber & Elizabeth Peover. John inherited £80 in his fathers Will. (The other benefactors are siblings James [inherited £60], Peter [inherited £60, Mary (Mrs Kinder) [inherited £100], William [did not inherit anything but his two children each received £20], and Thomas [main benefactor who stood to inherit the farm, dairy livestock etc., and lands upon his mother's death]. Probate value of Thomas's personal effects and estate was less than £50, which means that his children did not inherit anything. The History of Antrobus website says that Antrobus Hall, where Thomas was a tenant farmer for owner Benjamin Baxter, was sold on Baxter's death in 1818 to Sir Edward Antrobus and shortly thereafter a William Wright was farming the lands. Copies of several years of Land Tax Assessments were acquired to find out what lands Thomas Barber held at what time, names of farms or properties etc. They all show he was a tenant farmer. I have DNA matches to descendants of John's sons Peter Barber (1813-1887) and Samuel Barber (1820-1873). Researchers of these trees are adamant that John farmed at Arley Moss Farm/Moss Farm, Aston by Budworth and that he died in 1836. His grave entry is here: https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/140942093/john-barber John made a Will, drawn up on 18 June 1834, in which he appointed his brother Thomas and his son Peter to be Executors. He does not mention his children by name in his Will unfortunately, referred to as only "my sons and daughters". And although in the plural, family researchers have only managed to find one daughter - Mary. |
