MRS. JOHN THOMAS. It is with the deepest regret that we have to record the death, at the early age of 40 years, of the beloved wife of Mr. John Thomas, of Lobbs Hole, who succumbed at the Tumut Cottage Hospital on the 7th instant, the cause of death being carcinomia of the stomach. The deceased was the eldest daughter of the late Mr. William Oddy, and was married to her present husband about 2 years ago. Subsequently troubles caused her husband to take her to Sydney, and Dr. McCormick performed an operation 6 months ago. At the same time he stated that he did not deem it successful, and that the poor sufferer could not live longer than 2 months. Accordingly she came to Tumut, and her husband (than whom no one could be kinder) placed her in the Tumut Cottage Hospital and at periods, when her strength permitted of it, drove, or had her driven to residence of her erstwhile mother, the late lamented Mrs. J. Robinson, of Bombowlee. The poor sufferer, always cheerful though a terrible sufferer herself, was continually solicitous for the welfare of her own family and that of her husband's by his first wife. She never complained throughout, and endeavored to keep back from her husbund any little trouble she thought would cause him pain. Her husband was deeply devoted to her, and never considered any expense too great where his better half was concerned. At the Tumut Cottage Hospital she was the recipient of everything that kind hands could bestow. Both doctors, matron and nurses did all was possible to prolong her existence. Alas ! All proved futile, and the loved one passed away as we have stated. No earthly clinging, No lingering gaze, No strife at parting, No sore amaze ; But calmly and quietly She passed away, From earthly suffering To endless day. The funeral took place on Wednesday last, the remains being interred in the Church of England portion of the new cemetery. Mr. James Elphick was the undertaker and the Rev. W. D. Kennedy conducted the burial obsequies. We tender the bereaved ones our deepest sympathy. |
