"In his younger days he helped in the lifesaving and swiming clubs. He was an inauguaral member of the golf club and his family were avid supporters of the Hornets Football Club. Richard held office in the Ayr Trotting Club, Ayr Show, Development Council, Water Festival, Ayr State P & C, Pony Club, and the rice industry. Was Burdekin Shire Chairman from 1970-1976. Is love of horticulture, mainly orchids, gerbras and roses saw him judgung at flower shows within a 150km radius of Ayr." A trilogy of Historic Events (2007) page 58. |
