The daughter of Edward and Mary nee Gantry. Her mother was deceased and her Father sentenced to life transportation in 1832, resulting in Mary Ann, with her sisters Bridget and Catherine being sent to the Colony as Irish Gray Famine Orphans. They were all sponsored by John Broderick - the brother of their father's new wife - Anne. They arrived in Port Jackson, Sydney on the Ship "The Digby" -
Their names appear with Mary Ann on the Hyde Park Barracks Irish Famine Memorial - Sydney NSW Australia. Mary Ann married William Archer in 1850 in St. Peter & Paul's Catholic Cathedral, Goulburn, New South Wales. They had 8 (eight), children John, Charles, James, Mary Jane, William, Thomas, Louisa Ellen, and Edward H... Mary Ann died of: Chronic Rheumatism and exhaustion John Broderick married Mary Ann's sister Catherine nee Naughton. |
