The Tumut Advocate 13 Feb 1923
OBITUARY. MRS. ANNIE HALLORAN. On Friday afternoon, 9th inst,at 3 o'clock, here passed peacefully away the late Mrs. Annie Halloran, of "Redbank," Tumut Plains, relict of the late Thomas Halloran, after an illness extending over a period of five months, the immediate cause of death being a form of heart trouble. Drs. Browne and Clouston, who gave the case their closest attention, held out very small hope of her recovery on account of the patient's advanced years. Deceased, who was a resident of Tumut Plains for over forty years, was born in County Limerick, Ireland, in the year 1847, and came to this country when only two years of age with her parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Jeremiah Kenneally, who settled at Lacmalac. In the year 1870 she married the late Mr. Thomas Halloran, who predeceased her by about twenty years. She leaves a grownup family of four sons and four daughters to mourn their loss. The remains were interred in the Roman Catholic portion of the old cemetery, beside those of her late husband. Three of her sons (Messrs Michael, Thomas and Edward) and three grandsons (Cletus Heffernan, Fred and John Halloran) were pall-bearers, and Rev. Fr. H. J. Devine read the burial service. The deceased, who was one of the fine old stock of earlier pioneers, brought up a large family of sons and daughters, all of whom are a credit to their progenitors. A most affable old lady to those who knew her in the sere and yellow leaf of life, a true friend and neighbor, a loving wife and devoted mother, and as far as we can learn an adviser in her days of prime when advice gained oftimes by bitter experience was an appreciable gift, she was there to give it on sound basis when it was sought. The family living include Mrs. T. Keown (Tumut), Mrs. J. Heffernan (Moruya), Miss C. Halloran (Tumut Plains), Sister M. Mercedes (Dominican Convent, Moss Vale), Messrs Michael and Thomas (Tumut Plains), John (New Zealand) and Edward (Tumut Plains). The surviving sisters are Mrs. Robt. Dear (Tumut) and Mrs. Murphy (Burrawang), the only brother living being Mr. James Kenneally of Moss Vale.r |
