MRS. R. CURRIE
The death occurred rather suddenly last Wednesday of Mrs. Rosannah Currie, widow of Mr. Robert Currie of Batlow, who predeceased her by barely 10 weeks. Mrs. Currie had been ill for a week or more, and had not recovered from the shock caused by the death of her husband in July. Her daughter took her to the Tumut Hospital on Tuesday, where she died at the age of 82 years. Mrs. Currie, who was born at Gilmore, and was the eldest daughter of the late Mr. Thomas Boyd, who was the first man to cross the Tumut River, having been with Hume and Hovell's expedition. She leaves one daughter, Mrs. Ted Townson, three grandchildren, and one great grandson. One son, Bob, was killed in the Great War, and three other children died in childhood. Mrs. Currie had five sisters, Mrs. Clee and Mrs. Allen (still living), and Mrs. Beck, Mrs. Crouch, and Miss Bridget Boyd (deceased), and two brothers, Messrs. Thomas and E. Boyd (living) and one brother, Bob, who was killed in the Boer War. A Requiem Mass was held at the Batlow Catholic Church on Thursday morning. The Rev. Father Collins, of Adelong, officiated. He also conducted the funeral service at the grave. There was a big attendance at the graveside, both Mr. and Mrs. Currie having lived in Batlow for the greater part of their lives.
