MISS BRIDGET BOYD.

At 9 a.m. on Monday last Miss Bridget Boyd, suffering from carcinoma of the throat, died at her sister's (Mrs. Cray's) residence.
About two years ago, at the instigation of Dr. Mason, she went to Sydney for an operation which was performed, but the old trouble re- appeared about six months ago, when, upon being recalled to attend her, Dr. Mason declared that her life would be short and his view of the case proved to be a correct one. The deceased, who died at the age of 51 years, was a daughter of the late Robert Boyd, who accompanied the explorers Hume and Hovell in their exploitation of then unknown country in this State, which included the territory between Yass and the most southern limits of the Riverina district. Mr. Boyd was the first white man known to swim across the Murray River. For the good services rendered to the State (then Colony), he was granted a pension from the N.S.W. Government, just about sufficient for his ordinary subsistence. At one particular function, namely, the opening of the railway to Albury, he was, on the representations of the late Mr. R. McKay, given a prominent position in the great function connected therewith—next to the Governor's chair—to mark the appreciation of the able services he had rendered in opening up the south-eastern portion of the Mother State. The funeral of the late Miss Boyd will take place this afternoon.
