In October 1920 the Gundagai Times proudly reported Mr Bill Carr had arrived home from Sydney in his new, up-to-date Ford car. "Mr H Gardiner did the steering and the journey was accomplished without punctures or breakdowns"! In November Bill started on his annual fishing trip to Lizzie's place at Walwa - by sulky! So much for the new-fangled conveyance!
William Henry Carr is from good convict stock. His mother was Mary Anne Hayden (1842-1928). Her mother was the convict Mary Ann Budd (1804-1861). Her father William Hayden (1813-1873) was not a convict but both his parents were namely James Hayden (1762-1820) who arrived 1791 and Jane Mary Kane (1777-1853). |
