Emma Glasscock. Emma was born on the 30 September 1896 in Gundagai . She married Arthur Edward Hoare in 1921 in Gundagai . She died on the 18th October 1993 in Gundagai Hospital aged 97 . She is buried at Coolac .
The following was published in one of the Gundagai papers on the 21 October 1993. This article was provided by Bob Moore. “Passing of Emma Hoare One of Gundagai’s best loved and oldest citizens, Emma Hoare, died in the Gundagai Hospital on Monday at the age of 97 years. Emma was born at Mingay Coolac in 1896, the daughter of Joshua and Mary Jane Glasscock. She was one of a family of eleven. Only one, Catherine (Mrs Davis) who lives in Queensland, now survives. Emma married Arthur Hoare in 1921. For some years they lived in Albury, before returning to Coolac. Arthur died in 1960. She is survived by her son Charles, daughter Joan and her husband Ray Neal, and Ron and Jennifer Hoare. There are seven grand children, eleven great grandchildren and now one great great grandchild. Emma was an active member of the Anglican parish, playing her role for many years. She was an indefatigable worker, taking her place on street stalls and the like, and being involved in balls, the annual flower show and other activities associated with the parish. She was also active in the Red Cross, especially during the war years, and also a dedicated worker for the Australian Comforts Fund. Her efforts for these organisations were greatly appreciated by Gundagai serviceman and women. Emma was a woman of great stamina. She was a devoted mother, dedicated to rearing her family, but she also enjoyed gardening and she was often out in the paddocks, helping with the heavy work about the farm. She was a person of strongly held views and determination, and yet she was also a person of great compassion and kindness. Until very recently Emma lived in her own flat and cared for herself. It was only in recent weeks that she was forced to become a fulltime hospital patient. Her funeral took place today following a service conducted in St Jude’s Church, Coolac, by the Rev. Steve Simkus.” |
