Commemoration AWM Roll of Honour, Canberra ACT: Panel 83. Notes McInerney became a prisoner of war when the Japanese captured Singapore on 15 February 1942. He died in a POW camp in Burma on 26 November 1943. He was buried at Thanbyuzayat War Cemetery, Myanmar: grave A2. D. 14. His wife Betty also served in World War 2. The graves of those who died during the construction and maintenance of the Burma-Siam railway (except for the Americans, whose remains were repatriated) were transferred from camp burial grounds and isolated sites along the railway into three cemeteries at Chungkai and Kanchanaburi in Thailand and Thanbyuzayat in Myanmar.
