Personal Notes:
Adelong and Tumut Express 9 Jan 1925
The death occurred in Gundagai Hospital on New Year's Day of Mr. John Paton, of Mundarlo, the man who has probably 'rung' more timber in Gundagai district than any other two men put together. He used to do this in a big way — one contract on Mountain Station was for 8000 acres ; another at Brungle for 6000 acres. For years he followed the occupation of contractor on stations and roads. He was a native of Jellingroe, and 60 years of age, being a brother of Messrs. Wm. and Andrew Paton, who predeceased him, and Mr. Alf. Paton, residing at Mundarlo. A family of 11 children survive. Deceased was a hard worker all his life, and a heart strain, caused by lifting heavy timber, put him in a bad way for the past couple of years, and eventually brought about his death. The remains were interred in Tumblong C.E. cemetery on Friday.
