A descendant of Charles Sturt, the explorer, Mr. George William Milner Sturt, of "Richlands," Tumut Plains, died last week. Deceased was born Tumut Plains, 60 years ago, the youngest son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Richard Sturt. He spent his life practically in these environs and in 1900 married Miss Ada Montgomery, who died in 1935. After his father's death, Mr.George Sturt went to reside at the old homestead, and remained there till the end. He is survived by four sons, Caryle, John, Harry, and Ernest, two daughters, Regina W ("Trixie" Mrs. E. Withers, Gundagai),and Louisa (Mrs. J. Humphreys, East Blowering), two brothers Arthur (Tumut Plains) and Alfred (Blue Mountains) and four sisters Fanny (Mrs. H. Ibbotson (Goulburn), Florence (Mrs. Clout, Yass), Susan (Mrs. T. C. Mulvihill, Tumut), and Lottie (Mrs. Frèd Nuttall, Tumut).
The Sturt family of Tumut Plains, are descendants of Charles Sturt, the explorer, and are recognised far and wide as progressive farmers. The late Mr. Sturt, like his brother Arthur, was a keen follower of the sport of kings. Many a good horse has been bred and trained by the Sturt brothers.
The funeral moved from All Saints after a service conducted by Rev. S.Broadfoot, and the very lengthy funeral cortege proceeded to the C. of E. portion ofthe Tumut new cemetry. Thè casket covered with, a wealth of floral trbiutes was borne by Messrs. Carlyle and John Sturt (sons), Ernset Whithers and John Humphreys (sons-in-law), Arthur and Richard Sturt (nephews).
