Personal Notes:
Bruce McLennan wrote: “From what family researchers have been able to ascertain she was either a cousin, or something similar, to Ann Maguire (nee Noble) of Kangaroo Valley and she went to live with Patrick and Ann Maguire after soem event. Patrick and Ann (nee Noble) Maguire migrated from Co. Fermanagh to Kangaroo Valley in 1856.”

Martha Noble, according to the arrival documentation into NSW, was the daughter of William and Margaret Noble from Northern Ireland.

Martha, aged 20, was on board the "Pearl" as an "Assisted Migrant" when it arrived into Sydney on 17 Aug 1841 and she was from Co. Fermanagh. Her calling was "house servant" and she was protestant. From what family researchers have been able to ascertain she was either, a cousin, or something similar, to Ann Maguire (nee Noble) of Kangaroo Valley. Patrick and Ann (nee Noble) Maguire migrated from Co. Fermanagh to Kangaroo Valley in 1856. (Their daughter, Dorothea, was the grandmother of a Kerr desendant, Joan Edwards.) She could read but not write. Family stories tell of both her parents having been killed in a carriage accident not long before she left Ireland. There is a possiblity she might have even been a sister - but, for this to be true, one or other's recorded parents would have to be wrong!) Martha was the neice of Dr Kenneth McKenzie who had already settled near Thomas Soper's property at "Budanon" in the upper reaches of the Shoalhaven.
Martha Noble married Tom Soper at Coolangatta (the main centre of the Berry area a that time) in 1841 - four months after her arrival. She and Thomas had at least seven children - mainly at Bamarang (an area about 5 kms west of Nowra). Thomas died at Camberwarra (about 5 kms north-west of Nowra) in 1877.
The Broughton Creek Register (later known as the Berry Register) reported on 14 June 1890 that "Mrs Soper, for many years resident in Cambewarra, passed over to the great majority at the age of 90 years, her husband having predeceased her by a number of years. Mrs Soper reared a large family; most of whom are comfortably settled in the neighbourhood. She was buried on her own place, the funeral having been attended by most of the residents about. The Rev. Mr. Parr was to have preached a sermon on the occasion last Sunday forenoon but, probably owing to the state of the road, he did not come. The roads in fact all round about are almost impassable, and can only be got along with the greatest discomfort and risk of accident." (The age (90) appears to be inconsistent with the age on her immigration record - and inconsistent with having her last child in 1856.)

This public tree has about 60,100 people. Every person in the tree is related by birth or marriage to at least one other person in the tree - no strays. The people in the tree come mainly from four projects.
  1. My family tree. The original project begun about 1998. ID numbers less than about 6,000
  2. Canberra and Queanbeyan Pioneers. The next 30,000 begun about 2004. Sourced almost entirely from HAGSOC's excellent 'Biographical Register of Canberra and Queanbeyan'. The project began when I decided to add siblings, spouses and parents for a relation with an entry in the Register. 12 years work.
  3. Wagga Pioneers. I moved to Wagga and thought I would extend the Queanbeyan project by adding people from Wagga Wagga & District Family History Society's 'Pioneers of Wagga Wagga and District'. About 10,300 people added over about a year.
  4. Tumut Valley Pioneers. During the COVID-19 pandemic of 2020, I decided to extend the above projects by adding pioneers of the Tumut Valley. Initial sources were Snowden's 'Pioneers of the Tumut Valley' and 'Relict of ... Lives of Pioneering Women of Tumut and District'. Excellent references published by Tumut Family History Group. I've also added material from newspapers of the time - especially, death records, obituaries and weddings from 'Tumut and Adelong Times'. This project is in its early stage and might take a few years. I plan to extend to the upper Monaro (Adaminaby, Kiandra, Cooma, Jindabyne).
I upload new information to this website about every 3 months. My motivation for these projects is to provide public information for people seeking to trace ancestors and what became of them. Much of the information I provide can be difficult to find.
If you find errors - anything incorrect (dates, places, wrong parents, wrong children), and you have evidence, I would love to fix them. Or, if you have information that would extend my projects, do not hestiate to contact me on the email link below. I do not publish information on living people - which means I'm not much interested in people born after about 1920, and I usually distrust material from before about 1770 without extremely good sources.
