Obituary.
ALD. H. G. ROBERTSON. The death occurred early yesterday afternoon at his home in George-street of Alderman Henry George Robertson, of the butchery of G.H. Robertson Pty Ltd. Aged 43, the late Mr. Robertson was a keen cattle-buyer and business man and was well-known throughout the State.
Born at Eton, he came to Mackay over 30 years, ago. His father conducted, the butchery in Victoria-street now known as the Mackay Meat Supply. Following his father's death the late Ald. Robertson was employed at Wallis's butchery. In 1915 he went to the war, being invalided home two years later; and for three years he was secretary of the Mackay Returned Soldiers' League. For a time he conducted a car on the stand, and then became manager of the Victoria-street butchery of his cousin, Mr. R. G. Robertson.
After serving as manager for the Mackay State butchery— the premises now occupied by G. H. Robertson Pty. Ltd - the late Mr. Robertson was appointed general manager in Brisbane, a position he retained until the shops were disposed of by the Government in 1929. He returned to Mackay, and in conjunction with others bought the former State butchery.
At the last City Council elections he was appointed alderman. Twelve months ago he went to Brisbane, where he had a severe heart attack, from which he did not recover. In his younger days the late Mr. Robertson was a member of the old Imperial football club, and he also won renown in the fistic world. For many years he was a member of the Caledonian Masonic and Protestant Alliance lodges.
He is survived by his wife, three children— Heather, Henry, and Barbara and three sisters — Mrs O'Toole (Sarina), Mrs. J. Ferguson, (Victoria-street), and Mrs. J. G. Gibb (Pirie-street).
The funeral will take place this afternoon at 2.30 o'clock, and Rev. R. Bardon, B.A., will conduct the last sad rites.

Mentioned in obit of husband

Daily Mercury (Mackay) 28 March 1941
MRS. ISABELLA PRATT.
Whilst busily knitting socks for
soldiers abroad on the' veranda of her
home, in Juliet-street, yesterday
afternoon, Mrs. David Pratt, one of
the most widely respected Identities
of the Mackay district over very
many years, suddenly put her knitting
down in her lap and passed away
peacefully.
News of the death of this grand old
lady, wife of Mr. David Pratt, shocked
the community, for it was utterly
unexpected. Only that afternoon Mrs.
Pratt had seemed in the most robust
Health and had sent for more wool
to continue her patriotic work. Mrs.
Pratt would have been 84 years of
age in July.
A little over three years ago Mr.
and Mrs. Pratt celebrated their
Diamond Wedding at the residence of
the Hamilton family, "Iolanthe,"
James-street.
The gathering on that occasion was
notable by the fact that four gener
ations of the Pratt family, number
ing 45, were present and a very large
assemblage of representative citizens.
It was an outstanding landmark, not
only in the lives of the aged couple
themselves, but also in the wide
spread interest that Mackay and dis
trict had in the event.
The late Mrs. Pratt leaves a hus
band, two sons and five daughters.
The eldest son, William, died at Kolijo
a few years ago, and another, David,
made the supreme sacrifice in the
Great War. The other members of
the family are: Mr. F. D. Pratt, of
Kolijo, and Mr. D. Pratt, of Baker's
Creek. The daughters are: Mrs. C.
P. Mau, Mrs. H. G. Johansen and Mrs.
H. Petersen, of Rosella; Mrs. P. Rob
ertson, of George-street, Mackay; Mrs.
K. Sprogoe, of the Chalet, Eungella.
The deceased lady, although not
enjoying the best of health for some
time past, was not really ill. She was
sitting on her veranda knitting, and
suddenly was attacked by a seizure
about 2 o'clock. Medical assistance
was summoned, but life was extinct.
Only a brief period previously Mrs.
Pratt conversed with a friend, whom
she told she was quite well, and
requested her girl to bring more
wool.
In the present as in the last war,
Mrs. Pratt did an immense amount
of knitting for the soldiers.
Married in Scotland on September
30, 1877, with her husband she
reached Mackay by the sailing ship
Hannah Landells In September 58
years ago. On this vessel also came
the late Mr. R. Hamilton, and the
families have been close friends over
the intervening years.
The late Mrs. Pratt's life was
marked by a spirit of active charity
and loyalty, and many acts of kind
ness had been unostentatiously done.
Like her husband, the late Mrs.
Pratt was held in the highest esteem
by all who had the pleasure of her
acquaintance. The couple became
engaged in dairying near the Town
Common early after their arrival and
by Industry went on to success. Her
kindly disposition endeared her to all
associated with her. but she was one
who was always closely attached to
her home and family.

MR. DAVID PRATT
DIES, AGED 94
TEN days after the celebration of his
94th birthday, Mr. David Pratt of
Juliet-street passed away at his residence
in the early hours of Saturday morning.
One of the best known
and most highly respected
citizens of Mackay and
district, the late Mr. Pratt
was particularly prominent
in bowling circles. Annual
competitions fare held for
the Pratt Diamond Wed
ding Cup.'
Born at King's Kettle, Scotland,
on May 25, 1855, the late Mr.
Pratt lost his father when he was
a young child. He had to start
work at an early age, when most
boys are In the early stages of
their school life. He often stated
that his schooling was very brief.
In one of his reminiscences of
his early days, the late Mr. Pratt
recalled the jubilation and festivi
ties associated with the wedding
of King Edward VII. He was then
a lad about six years. There was
a bonfire and the foundation stone
of Arthur's Seat was laid amid
popular acclaim. He remembered
It was at that festive occasion he
first tasted meat.
LEFT SCHOOL AT TEN
Leaving school at the age of 10
he went to work on a farm doing
what was known in those days as
"rodding wheat," and following
the harvesters, earning 7d. a day
at this occupation.
When he was about 19, the late
Mr. Pratt went to Edinburgh, but
did not do very well in that city.
He later found work on the
docks at Leith, and subsequently
on the railway, where he remained
for 10 years, rising to the position
of guard.
It was while he was em
ployed on the railway that he
met with an accident to both
legs, causing periodical trouble.
Effects of this injury caused him
to relinquish the game of bowls,
of which lie was very fond, a num
ber of years ago.
Following his accident the com
pany gave him an office position.
Some friends suggested that he
should go to Queensland.
ON SAILING SHIP
In the meantime he married
Miss Isabella Dingwall, ot Even-
tun, Ross-shire, and together they
sailed for Queensland from Glas
gow on "Hannah Landles" on June
6, 1883, reaching Mackay on Sep
tember 11.
Mackay was then a small place.
Soon after arriving he lost his eld
est girl, Johanna. He managed to
secure a house near the town
common, with four acres of land,
and started dairy farming, between
carting wood and doing odd jobs.
By dint of hard work he made
a great success of this venture
and he sold the property. He then
purchased an area of five acres
where he continued dairying, with
a milk run. This business was
continued profitably for 17 or 18
years, and he also grew cane on
a block adjacent to the Town
Common.
The late Mr. Pratt then pur
chased what was known as the
Homebush Terminus, near Baker's
Creek, where he grew cane and
carted for Homebush mill. Later
McLennan's farm of 2000 acres
was purchased, and a large crop
was harvested in 1908.
In 1911 he visited his home
land, but remained there only
six months.
Mrs. Pratt died about eight years
ago, at the ripe age of 84 years.
The late Mr. Pratt is survived
by one son. Mr. Duncan Pratt, of
Baker's Creek, and five daughters
— Mrs. C. P. Mau, of Homebush -
road, Mrs. H. G. Johansen, of
Rosella, Mrs. Hans Petersen, of
Homebush-road, Mrs. G. H. Rob
ertson, of Mackay, and Mrs. Kay
Sprogoe, The Chalet Eungella.
There are 22 grandchildren and
27 great-grandchildren.
