Obituary.
MR. ARTHUR O'TOOLE.
There passed away in a private hos
pital on Saturday last, July 30, a well
known identity in this district, Mr.
Arthur O'Toole, of Sarina. Born at
Copperfield (Clermont) 60 years ago,
he came to Mackay in his early child
hood. He was a baker, and learned
his trade at Taylor's bakery. After
completing his apprenticeship he
worked for his brother-in-law, Mr. J.
Mezger. He left there and went up
to Mt. Molloy for a number of years.
Returning to Mackay district, he went
to work at Walkerston, Mirani, and
Finch Hatton. After a few months as
an employee of Lamberts Ltd., he re
turned to his trade with Mr. T. Hoey
at Sarina. At the commencement of
the construction of the railway south
ward from Sarina, Mr. O'Toole saw the
opportunity to start in business on his
own account. Ten years ago he gave
this up and started the carrying busi
ness, which he sold a month or so be
fore his death. Of a quiet disposition,
'Arthur,' as he was generally known,
will be greatly missed by a large circle
of friends and acquaintances. He was
married about 30 years ago to Mary,
the eldest daughter of Mr. H. E. and
Mrs. Robertson, the former at one time
a well-known butcher in Mackay and
Eton. Deceased leaves a family of
three — the Misses Nita and Ivy O'Toole,
and Mrs. G. (Pat) Pulford— all of
whom reside in Sarina. There is one
grandchild. The deceased has two
sisters (Mrs. T. L. Hoey of Shakes
peare-street, and Mrs. J. Mezger, of
Brisbane). Two brothers (Messrs, Jim
and Jack) predeceased him.
