RECENT-SAD BEREAVEMENT; The death of Mrs. Mary Fitzgerald, who died at Mareeba on Saturday last, removes from the district one of the fine type of women who have proved the North quite suitable for white set- tlement. It is over 35 years ago that the deceased left her home in County Cork, Ireland, for the purpose of settling in North Queensland and the greater portion of the time was spent in Cairns and Mareeba districts. The family left to mourn the loss of a good wife and mother consist of Mr. Thos. Fitz- gerald, Mrs. William Eakin (Maree ba), Mrs. S. Soper (Ayr), Miss Delia Fitzgerald (Townsville), the - Misses Eileen, Kathelene and Monica Fitz- geralds of Cairns, and Miss Esmie Fitzgerald the youngest daughter who resides with her father at Mareeba, Mr. William Fitzgerald of Malanda,, was the only son of the deceased lady who died highly respected by all who knew her.

Note 4: Death registration: Thomas Fitzgerald Death date: 15/01/1935 Mother's name: Mary Downey Father/parent's name: Patrick Registration details: 1935/C/148 Cairns Post 19 Jan 1935 MR. THOMAS FITZGERALD MAREEBA, January 16. The death, of an old resident of Ma reeba in the person of Mr. Thomas Fitzgerald occurred at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. W. Eakin, Mareeba, on Tuesday, January 15, at the age of 74 years. Deceased, who was born in Ireland, came to Australia as a youth, and in his early life joined the police force, being stationed at Cooktown. In later days he joined the Railway De- partment and was stationed in Ma- reeba for over 40 years, with an inter- val of a few months at Yungaburra, where he met with an accident, which compelled him to retire. He returned to Mareeba, and had resided from thence onwards with his daughter, Mrs. Eakin, He had been in failing health for some time, and his demise was not unexpected. He is survived by six daughters and one son (Mes- dames W. Eakin, Mareeba; S. Soper, Dimbulah; H. Power, Cairns; K_ Stamp, Millaa Millaa; H. Robins, Townsville; Miss Monica Fitzgerald. Townsville; and Mr. W. Fitzgerald, of the Railway Department, Mareeba). The funeral took place on Wednesday afternoon, moving from St. Thomas's Church, and was attended by many old friends. Rev. Father Mount officiated at the graveside.
