Note 7: Australian Star 16 Nov 1896 COWLEY.— November 12, at Walleragang, Upper Murray, William, second son of- William Cowley, surveyor.-Fernhill, Canterbury. Cootamudra Herald 18 Nov 1896 DEATH OF MR. WILLIAM COWLEY.—Our readers of this and the surrounding district will regret to learn of the death of Mr. William Cowley, which sad event took place, after a very short illness of inflammation of the lungs, on Friday last. Deceased was 45 years of age, and in his early days was a grazier in the Illabo district. He was a son-in-law of Mr. Stephen White, of Merribindinyah, with whose family and the residents of the district he was highly respected. It will be remembered that about three years ago the deceased's wife died at Temora and her remains were interred in the Bethungra cemetery. He leaves a small family of orphans to mourn his loss.
