DEATH OF MR. WILLIAM COWLEY.—Our readers of this and the surrounding district will regret to learn of the death of Mr. William Cowley, which sad event took place, after a very short illness of inflammation of the lungs, on Friday last. Deceased was 45 years of age, and in his early days was a grazier in the Illabo district. He was a son-in-law of Mr. Stephen White, of Merribindinyah, with whose family and the residents of the district he was highly respected. It will be remembered that about three years ago the deceased's wife died at Temora and her remains were interred in the Bethungra cemetery. He leaves a small family of orphans to mourn his loss.

GUNDAGAI POLICE COURT.
Friday, February 2nd.
Before the Police Magistrate.
A wages case between P. Lynch of South Gundagai, and Mr. Cowley, the surveyor, was decided in favour of the complainant.
The defence on the part of Mr. Cowley was that plaintiff had unduly absented himself from work, and therefore he was not compelled to
pay him tor any broken time, evidence was, however, given that defendant made use of
irritating language towards complainant, and the Bench accordingly made an order for the amount of wages claimed..
