MALCON— SOPER.
One of the prettiest weddings seen in
Atherton for some considerable time was
celebrated oh August 6, by the Rev.
Alsop, the contracting parties being Gor
don, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. J.
Malcom, Atherton, to Marjorie, eldest
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Soper, Ather
ton. The bride, who looked exceedingly
sweet, entered the church on the arm
of her father, to the strains of the
'Wedding March, played by Mrs. Mc
Night, gowned in an ivory bridal satin
ankle length frock with set in godets
of tiny frills, bodice tight fitting, re
lieved with tiny frills, her bridal
wreath and veil forming a train, and
kindly lent by her aunt, competed a
charming ensemble; she carried a beauti
ful sheaf of Arum lilies. Her only
bridesmaid, Miss Olga Soper, sister of
the bride, looked charming in a blue
satin beaute ankle length frock skirt
set in-godets and relieved with tiny
bows. Her tulle hair, dress, completed a
dainty outfit; she carried a bouquet of
blue lupins, tied with a beautiful bow.
The duties of best man were carried out
by Mr. J. Peates, uncle of the bride
groom. After the wedding, the parties
motored to the bridegroom's residence,
where a beautiful breakfast was served.
Some eighty guests sat down. The
tables were decorated with flowers. In
the centre was a three-tier cake made
and presented by the bride's father. Mr.
Soper. The decorations were carried out |
in silver and a silver vase of flowers
formed the top ornament. After the loyal
toast, Mr. Alsop proposed the toast of
tlie bride, the bridegroom responding.
After other toasts, musical items were
rendered. The bride and bridegroom left
for Double Island where the honeymoon
will be spent, the bride traveling in a
navy blue satin coat and skirt
with a navy blue hat to match. Mr. and
Mrs. Malcom were the recipients, of
some valuable presents, including several
cheques. . The bride and bridesmaid's
dresses were made by Mrs. W. Eakin ;
(Mareeba), aunt of the bride.

MOTOR MECHANIC KILLED
UTILITY OVERTURNS ON MACHAN'S BEACH BOAD.
A Cairns motor mechanic was killed instantly on Saturday night when the utility truck he was driving ran off the road and overturned about one and a half miles from the beach on the Machan's Beach road.
He was Gordon Blackburn Malcolm (38), of 236 Lake-street, employed by the Central Garage at the corner of Aplin and Grafton streets. Mr. Malcolm and his wife left Machan's Beach at 10.30 o'clock on Saturday night in a utility truck owned by his father. Mr. J. G. Malcolm, on the return journey to Cairns.
After travelling about one and a half miles along the Machan's Beach road, the truck skidded and ran off the road. It overturned: and. pinned; him under the vehicle, apparently killing him instantly. He was dead when the ambulance arrived and his wife was suffering from severe shock. The body, was brought in to the city morgue, and Mrs. Malcolm was taken to her relatives home in Balfe-street.
Deceased was the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Malcolm, of Charles street, Cairns, and his wife, Mrs. Marjorie May Malcolm, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S. Soper, of Balfe-street, Cairns.
He was a member of the Cairns sub-branch R.S.L. and the RA.O.B.
Born at Atherton he had been in the North all his life. Besides his widow, he leaves two sons. Robert (15) and Garry (13). -
The funeral will leave from St. Andrew's- Presbyterian Church, Cairns, at 11 o'clock this morning, and members of the R.S.L. and R.A.O.B. are invited. .
