- Notes: Michael Quilty arrived in 1841 with his parents and later acquired land on his own account and carried on farming pursuits.

Then he kept the Globe Hotel and also built the Commercial Hotel. He took a prominent part in any project for the advancement of the district.

On 19 August 1871, whilst serving in the bar of the Globe Hotel at 10.30pm some unknown person fired at Michael Quilty through the open door from the street. The bullet struck him in the head but he later recovered from this injury. It was considered that he did not have an enemy in the world. A few days later an indignant meeting of citizens was held and the sum of £200 subscribed for the apprehension of the felon. It is not recorded whether any arrests were effected.

Many families in the district are related to the Quilty family.
